Looking into the not-too-distant past—the early 1990s—you may recall another vocal quartet, not four men but four women, who called themselves Anonymous 4, and whose illustrious career spanned a couple of decades-plus. […] few instruments) was similarly striking from this must-see, must-hear ensemble. Rare successful and extraordinary in performances, the all-women’s ensemble has commissioned and premiered some 40 works since its founding in 2007. For this outing, just days after receiving its first review—a rave—in the New York Times, the ensmele performed “Love Fail” (2012) by the Pulitzer Prize winning (2008) composer David Lang. Think about the last few years, for example: the recession and its effects; the addition of new venues while Herbst was being renovated; the decline of the subscription model. Felt has championed young and up-and-coming artists, including the Pavel Haas Quartet, Jonathan Biss, and many others. SFP presents the valuable Alexander Quartet surveys and famed performers such as Marc-Andre Hamelin, Anna Caterina Antonacci, and Anonymous 4. They've presented new music and old, all fearlessly. The press release has lots of quotations from performers […]
