One of my favorite Edison Blue Amberol cylinders to play around the Holidays is #3796 "Don't Forget The Salvation Army" from 1919 by Arthur Fields and chorus (with Billy Murray!). Interestingly, the master used for this pressing includes an interesting and unusual anomaly. If you listen to the very beginning of the cylinder you can clearly hear the Edison recording engineer lower the studio recording assembly onto the blank master for a few seconds and then lift it for a few seconds yielding silence and then lower the recording assembly again for the actual recording. It's very unusual for this to have been transferred to this copy of the recording. Thanks for stopping in for a visit and I hope that you enjoy the video.
Toshi Ichiyanagi Yamamoto 1966 1969 2017 2018
Toshi Ichiyanagi – The Field (1966) Performed by Brandon Conway (electric guitar), Lee Elderton (clarinet), Matt Hannafin (percussion), Branic Howard (electric guitar), and Margaret McNeal (voice), with Emily Jones and Takahiro Yamamoto (dance). Reproduced as part of Cage’s ground-breaking 1969 book “Notations,” Ichiyanagi’s spare graphic score is both straightforward and enigmatic, depicting 17 shapes and patterns spread across an otherwise blank though highly textured field. A short block of text instructions asks players to “make performing rules by measuring the patterns and the white spaces in the following manner: Distance (time), Area (space), Density (speed or compactness).” “The Field” was presented as part of “Cage, Wolff, Ichiyanagi: Composed Improvisations for Music and Dance,” co-presented by Notice Recordings and the Extradition Series at Performance Works NW, Portland, Oregon, USA, on June 13, 2018. A 2017 Extradition Series performance of "The Field," featuring a different ensemble, can be found at (http•••) Photo by Glenn Sogge. The Extradition Series presents quarterly concerts of 20th- and 21st-century experimental music, exploring purity, space, and a natural unfolding of sound and silence. Notice Recordings is a cassette label that focuses on modern composition and contemporary sound and music works. www.extradition-series.com www.facebook.com/TheExtraditionSeries www.creativemusicguild.org/extradition-series noticerecordings.bandcamp.com
Extracted from DVD Blu-ray (1080i) Retrospect is the third live album released by the Dutch symphonic metal band Epica in celebration of their tenth anniversary. The recorded live show took part in Eindhoven, Netherlands on March 23, 2013 at the Klokgebouw and was sold out. Because of the great demand by international fans, Epica announced a live stream, called the Retrostream, on March 4, 2013. Epica performed on stage with the same orchestra that accompanied Epica in the recording of the live album The Classical Conspiracy: the 70-piece Extended Hungarian Remenyi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Choir of Miskolc National Theatre. The expanded ensemble mostly played Epica songs, including a whole new song called Retrospect, especially written for this live show with the same name. Like on The Classical Conspiracy, Epica played some classical music, excerpts from operas and movie soundtracks, however not as many as on the aforementioned show. The album was released on CD, DVD and Blu-ray on November 8, 2013 through Nuclear Blast Records. Before the release of the show on Blu-ray and DVD, the show premiered at two movie theaters: the Mathäser Multiplex Kino in Munich, Germany and the Service Bioscoop Zien in Eindhoven, Netherlands, although there it was also showed in a Mexican cinema (the Cineteca Nacional). 1- Retrospect 2 - Monopoly on Truth 3 - Sensorium 4 - Unleashed 5 - Martyr of the Free Word 6 - Chasing the Dragon 7 - Presto 8 - Never Enough 9 - Stabat Mater Dolorosa (w/Floor Jansen) 10 - Twin Flames 11 - Serenade of Self-Destruction 12 - Orchestral Medley 13 - The Divine Conspiracy (Anniversary Edition) 14 - Delirium 15 - Blank Infinity
