Isy Geiger +••.••(...)) was born in Russia. He initially studied violin with his father, then continued his studies in Berlin where he joined the orchestra of the Berlin State Opera. In 1918, he became conductor of the orchestra at the Carltheater. Settling in Vienna, he later founded his own dance orchestra, which played at the Cafe Splendid on Stephansplatz and broadcast regularly. In 1938, Geiger fled Vienna and came to England. Later, he formed an orchestra that regularly broadcast for the BBC. Some of his broadcasts on 'Music While You Work' are still easily accessible. 'Morgenblatter' was recorded in Vienna in October 1924. The Vienna recordings of that time had much better sound than their English counterparts, but with huge amounts of rumble. I have filtered out the worst of it, but was unwilling to further restrict the bass response.

He composed over 500 waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, and other types of dance music, as well as several operettas and a ballet. In his lifetime, he was known as "The Waltz King", and was largely then responsible for the popularity of the waltz in Vienna during the 19th century. Strauss was admired by other prominent composers: Richard Wagner once admitted that he liked the waltz "Wein, Weib und Gesang" Op. 333. Johannes Brahms was a personal friend of Strauss; the latter dedicated his waltz "Be Embraced, You Millions!", Op. 443, to him.
